Biography:

Professor MacKay did his graduate work at the University of York (UK) focusing on cultural theory and the history of the body. His PhD dissertation “Equine Medicine in a Horse Drawn World: Farriery, Horse-Doctoring and Equine Surgery in England c. 1680-c. 1800” has lead to several publications in the Veterinary History Journal and the The Journal of the History of Medicine and in September of 2008 he was awarded the Young Scholars Award from the World Association of the History of Veterinary Medicine (an award given out every three years to outstanding scholars) for his research. Broadly speaking he is interested in the fields of history of medicine, sociology and science, British and European history and the history of human/animal relationships.
