GPA and Test Requirements
There are specific GPA and testing requirements for teaching majors and minors. You need to adhere to these requirements in order to progress in the programs. If you have questions or concerns about your academic progression or GPA, contact Sarah Sauerbier or Dr. Kesler-Lund.
GPA
- You need at least a 2.7 GPA to apply for the teaching majors.
- You must earn a C grade in all of your teaching major and minor courses.
- You will need to retake any teaching major or minor course in which you earn below a C.
- A C- grade is below a C.
- You must have a 3.0 GPA in order to apply for (and complete) student teaching or internship.
- All major and minor coursework for the teaching programs must be successfully completed (with a C or higher) before student teaching or internship.

ACT/SAT/PRAXIS:
Cohort Average:
ACT:
- Reading: 21.25 or higher
- Writing: 6.60 or higher
- Mathematics: 21.25 or higher
SAT:
- Reading: 543.33
- Writing: 5.3
- Math: 532.50
PRAXIS:
- Reading (Test 5712): 168.06
- Writing (Test 5722): 165.0
- Math (Test 5732): 162.14
Individual Score:
- Reading and mathematics score must be the ACT equivalent of a 17 or higher
- Writing score must be the ACT equivalent of a 5 or higher OR a PRAXIS score of 132 or higher OR "C" or higher in WRTG 150 (or other BYU approved course that fulfills Freshman writing requirement) OR AP Language score of 4 or higher
- Anyone with a score below 17 may be accepted with a written justification from their program coordinator
